Staffordshire Bull Terrier (Staffie 1)

Staffies in the spotlight this week, because I was horrified to read that the number of staffies coming into rescue has increased by 850% in recent years, according to the RSPCA. Almost 3000 doggies per year are put to sleep at Battersea Dogs Home - the overwhelming majority are staffies. These are very sweet, friendly and loyal doggies whose misfortune it is to be "trendy" and to look a bit butch. I have tried to capture in my painting the butch stance of this dog, so beloved of the tabloid press, whilst reflecting the bewilderment in his eyes.
The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look upon the murder of men.  Leonardo da Vinci
