Galloping Horse

I first painted this horse in acrylics a year or so ago. This time he is in oils. He was intended to be my contribution to the Chinese Year of the Horse (January 31st) but he is a bit late. It is rewarding to paint the same scene again: it came much more naturally and seemed to flow from the brush, so it was encouraging, especially after a few unsuccessful paintings.

I was inspired by Van Gogh -  most favourite painter of all time after David Hockney - who painted a number of sunflower paintings, of which five are known. Two are side by side at the National Gallery until April, details here.
