A little series this week of animals "watching", here's the first. I painted this little daxie into an imagined back-drop of the seaside based on in Bude, Cornwall - which is our nearest beach.
This morning, I woke up to a (very) light coating of snow and thin ice on the hen's drinking water, so it is quite nice to remember sunnier days.
In terms of process, I painted the background first then put the dog in. I wasn't too worried about hard/soft edges as the dog needed to stand out. I created the waves with single dabs (for each crest) of 'neat' Titanium White picked up on the edge of a 1/2 inch flat. I am hoping to experiment a bit more with painting the sea.
