A formal portrait of my cat, Oscar, begun during winter's darker days. He had spontaneously posed for me on the arm of the sofa, lit by a lamp on his left and a tiny bit of residual daylight on his right. I stared at him for a while to absorb his expression and the way he was lit (note the very direct stare back I am getting!) then quickly snapped his picture to work from. Oscar had no intention of "holding the pose" for a little life work.
Now, with spring sort of here and the days longer, Oscar has shed an awful lot of his impressive mane and is now posing in sunlight whenever possible
