Birds are feeding chicks everywhere at the moment.  There are many swallows' nests in the village, a number on my neighbour's farm, in the barns. The other day, a swallow misjudged the swoop under the beam into her nest, hit her head *smack* and plummeted, unconscious, into a pail of milk. She was retrieved, washed under the kitchen tap and blow-dried, by which time she had recovered sufficiently to fly away. She can now be seen occasionally sitting on the wire above the back door, distinguished by her frizzy breast feathers, still all fluffed up from the blow-dry.
