Still persevering on my portrait work. Thanks to Schweta Patil for the reference photo of her little daughter. The painting was a wiper twice but I got there in the end.
There were two challenges: ensuring this very young child looked right against such bright colours and resolving problems with the underpainting. Originally, I toned the board in a warm yellow and this was a big mistake. I remember reading somewhere that a canvas toned with yellow would never work, and not really believing it. Well, it didn't work in this case. Went back to trusty burnt sienna and it came together surprisingly quickly after that.
